The next WIECAH Bi-monthly meeting is Monday, November 8th, at 5:45 PM at the 6th floor conference room at the Riverside City Hall. Among the items to be discussed are the growing consequences in the increase of incivility and intolerant speech, possible new organizational or status changes to WIECAH and other related items.

Teaching Tolerance

The Western Inland Empire Coalition Against Hate (WIECAH) is a non-profit networking organization dedicated to building tolerance and understanding in the Riverside/San Bernardino metropolitan area. In keeping with WIECAH’s Mission and objectives WIECAH is holding a Community Forum on the practices, programs and dialogues that enhance interfaith respect in our diverse society. How do local religious leaders and their faith communities bridge the differences between and among our community members, what are their challenges and their successes? Are there consequences when we fail to build tolerance?

This Community Forum will examine this issue in a panel presentation format so we have invited some local religious leaders as panelist to share their observations and experiences in this bridge building process.

Following the panel presentation an audience question & answer session moderated by Dr. June O’Connor is scheduled.

Panelist include:

• Reverend Matthew Crary, Riverside’s Universalist Unitarian Church

• Reverend Benita Ramsey, Unity Fellowship of Christ Church

• Deacon John De Gano, St. Catherine’s of Alexandria

• Moderator: Dr. June O’Connor, Professor of Religious Studies, UCRiverside

About WIECAH

The Western Inland Empire Coalition Against Hate (WIECAH) was started in January 2000, as concerned individuals saw a need for the community to be informed regarding hate crimes and incidents of hate.

Mission Statement

The Coalition will be a liaison between law enforcement, human relations commissions, community service groups, school, religious organizations, and the community dedicated eradicating hate and promoting diversity to achieve tolerance among all community members.

WIECAH's Objectives

• Educate the community on the consequences of hate.

• Identify and track emerging patterns in bias motivated crimes.

• Provide a comprehensive and uniform documentation of hate crimes and hate related activity.

• Develop a partnership between law enforcement agencies and community groups to effect successful prosecution of hate crime perpetrators.

• Create support networks to aid and assist survivors of hate crimes.

WIECAH meets on quarterly basis alternating between Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In addition the following subcommittee's meet as needed:

• Communications / Outreach

• Resources

• Victim Support

• Youth
